About the Book, The Parisian Heist:
In 1996, readers meet Emma, a struggling young American artist in Paris. She feared she’d abandoned her artistic dreams when she took a job cleaning for one of the city’s wealthy elite—the only way she could afford to stay and avoid returning to the difficulties back home in Philadelphia. But she learns her employer, Stella Swanson, is the widow of one of the most notorious art dealers in the business. The Swansons move in a world where billionaires, oligarchs, and heads of state pay fortunes for masterpieces. Drawn in by their dazzling wealth and the pull of a dangerously charming grandson, Emma becomes both a player and a pawn in the Swanson family’s battle to protect their empire and
conceal its crimes.
In the late 1800s, readers meet two intrepid young women. Claire has led a difficult life and been separated from her daughter because of how she makes her living, but things change when she befriends Jo van Gogh, a widow who has inherited hundreds of paintings—deemed worthless by the art world—from her brother-in-law, Vincent. Determined to prove their genius, and to secure a future for herself and her young son, Jo becomes consumed by Vincent’s legacy and enlists Claire to help her bring it to the fore. As her devotion deepens, a vanished painting and a thwarted love affair leave her unsure who
she can trust and how much of herself she’s willing to lose in the process.
From glittering auction houses to the idyllic canals of Amsterdam and the grand museums of Paris, the lives of these young women converge as Emma uncovers the Swanson family’s darkest secrets and agrees to mastermind a daring heist inside the Musée d’Orsay. These women refuse to be written out of history, no matter the cost.
For more than a century, Vincent van Gogh has been adored by millions, but most people have never even heard of Jo Van Gogh. With THE PARISIAN HEIST, Piazza fictionalizes Jo’s story while creating a narrative that forces readers to reconsider Vincent’s rise to fame and what the world would have lost without his tenacious sister-in-law.
